The Police Departments in Marin typically operate three DUI checkpoints over Christmas through New Year’s, one checkpoint for Memorial Day and one for Labor Day weekends throughout the County. Checkpoints usually last 4 - 6 hours and end between midnight and 2am.

Upcoming checkpoint: San Rafael Police have scheduled a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint for this Friday, June 19th between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.

On 1/30/09, a DUI/Driver's License checkpoint was conducted at Manual T. Frietas Parkway at Las Gallinas Avenue as part of a DUI Enforcement and Awareness Grant obtained by the Office of Traffic Safety. As a result, 1,463 vehicles were screened, 15 were cited for driving without a license or on a suspended license, 2 arrested for DUI, and 15 vehicles were impounded or towed.
On 1/2/09, 2 DUI/Driver's License checkpoints were conducted at 2 separate locations. The first was held at Andersen Drive at Gary Place. As a result, 1,291 vehicles were screened, 25 were cited for driving without a license or on a suspended license, 2 arrests for warrants, and 24 vehicles were impounded or towed. There were no DUI arrests. The second was held at Irwin Street at Fifth Ave. As a result, 483 vehicles were screened, 4 were cited for driving without a license or on a suspended license, 9 cited for moving violations and 7 vehicles were impounded or towed. There were no DUI arrests.
On 12/19/08, a DUI/Driver's License checkpoint was held at North San Pedro Road at Civic Center Drive. As a result, 1,205 vehicles were screened, 81 vehicles were unscreened, 20 were cited for driving without a license, 3 cited for moving violations and 13 vehicles were impounded or towed. There was 1 warrant arrest and no DUI arrests.
On 12/12/08, a DUI/Driver's License checkpoint was held at Third Street at Brooks Street. As a result, 1,500 vehicles were screened, 6 were cited for driving without a license or on a suspended license, 2 cited for moving violations and 4 vehicles were impounded or towed. There were no DUI arrests.
On 11/28/08, a DUI strike patrol was conducted with Six officers and one Sergeant were deployed for the 11 hour operation. As a result, 20 were arrested for driving unlicensed or driving on a suspended license, and 2 were arrested for outstanding warrants. A total of 18 vehicles were impounded. No DUI arrests were made.
